Registering a Cypriote SIM card outside of Cyprus is not possible due to their national telecoms regulations and the international call rates don’t always offer the best savings. Consequently, we provide an alternative solution offering great savings and simple easy to use functions.
Our Global SIM card
0044.co.uk is the UK’s leading supplier of Global and International SIM cards. With the all new ekit Home & Roam Travel Global SIM card you can avoid all mobile roaming charges, receive incoming calls for FREE in 60+ countries (including the USA) and make calls from just 30p/min. You’ll also benefit from having a UK and USA mobile number on one SIM card for maximum flexibility! The new Ekit Home & Roam global SIM offers great rates around the world and is the most cost effective global SIM for the USA and Canada.
How does it work?
All you need to do is ensure that your mobile handset is unlocked (the iPhone will also support the Global SIM). The International SIM card works on a Pay-As-You-Go basis therefore when your credit runs low all you need to do is purchase additional credit online 24/7 or via customer support. Tri-band (or Quad-band) handsets are required for use in the USA and Canada.

How does the SIM avoid mobile phone roaming charges?
Our global SIM card service combines the convenience of mobile technology with the value of a landline service to ensure that not only do you save money but you also receive greater quality. The dual number range for the UK and USA also means it’s an ideal solution for frequent trips to the USA/Canada as well as global travel. You can receive calls in the USA and Canada on a UK number for FREE and receive calls in the UK on your USA number although a surcharge applies in addition to any incoming call charges. However, we recommend using the USA (+1) number profile for USA and Canada and the UK (+44) number profile on your global SIM for all other destinations covered as this creates a simple user experience and achieves maximum savings.
The innovative patented technology of our global SIM means that by connecting your call via a central platform you can save up to 80%. Therefore the calling process differs slightly; when you make an outgoing call your handset will actually direct the call via the platform and then call you back to connect the call.
Making a call
Calling from the Global SIM card is a slightly different experience to a normal mobile phone call:
This unique calling method not only ensures that you save money but also produces greater call quality. Receiving calls and sending Text (SMS) is exactly the same as normal!
In the USA and Canada the calling process is direct on the global SIM as you’d experience with a standard network SIM card, and callback does not apply.
Important; Outbound calls/texts in the USA and Canada should only be made with the US number profile, and outside of the USA and Canada only the UK (+44) number profile should be used for making outbound calls/texts. The appropriate number profile can be easily activated on-line prior to travelling.
Receiving a call
As the Global SIM card has two number options (+44 UK/global and +1 USA) it provides greater flexibility and savings for receiving calls. You can provide callers with both number ranges and they may use either to reach you wherever you are located. The benefit to the caller is that they can use a local number to ring you (+44 if they are resident in the UK and +1 if they reside in the USA) at cheaper rates. You also benefit if you are in the USA and are called on your UK number option as you receive the call for FREE! If you receive a call on the US number in the USA or Canada then you pay the advertised incoming call rates. You may also receive calls on your US number outside the USA/Canada but a surcharge always applies in addition to the normal incoming call rate. Please use the rates calculator for all current call rates.
Compatible Handsets
The Global SIM card will work in most handsets just as long as they are unlocked. However, the calling procedure may differ depending on your handset. This makes no difference to the call quality but it means you may need to dial with a short pre-fix number. In general;
Unfortunately every handset is different and, with multiple software variations, there are too many to test and list. Please remember that all global SIM cards operate in this manner so no matter which network provides the SIM you will still have the same compatibility experience.
Validity
The +44 UK number is valid as long as you keep your account active and the +1 US number option is valid for 4 months from last use. To keep your account and +44 UK number active you must top it up at least once every 15 months and to preserve existing credit you need to make a call or send a text every 9 months (or 4 months for the US number). If you do not make a call or send a text within these validity periods, your remaining credit will be lost and you will need to top up again (minimum $30US) to re-instate any lost credit. Unused credit rolls forward and is added to the new amount when a top up is made. The ability to make outbound calls in the US and Canada is temporarily suspended 7 days after the last use in those countries. However, the US number remains active and can receive calls and text messages for up to 4 months after suspension and existing credit is also maintained. If the US number is not used for 4 months the US calling option can easily be re-activated by calling customer services or by dialing 870, although a new US number may be issued. To maintain your existing US number past the 4 month validity period you may opt to pay a fee of 31p per month and this can be activated and cancelled via your web based account.
Topping-Up
Buying more calling time is simple. Use your American Express, MasterCard or VISA card to add USD $30, $50, $100, $150 or $200 to your account. (Debit Cards with a Visa or MasterCard logo are also accepted.) All top ups are made in $USD due to the fact that the SIM can be topped up from anywhere in the world. Top ups can be made in four easy ways;
Full details are included with the SIM. Your account balance and call history can be accessed online 24/7 using your unique user ID.

'Roaming' in the UK
A unique benefit of the Ekit global SIM card is its ability to roam on available networks in a territory and this also applies to the UK. Recent updates from the main UK networks (O2, Vodafone, Orange and T.Mobile) confirm that their network coverage is concentrated on major towns and cities and this often means that large areas of rural or sparsely populated areas receive minimal coverage, if any. However, whilst one network may have no coverage in a rural location another network may well offer their service. With an Ekit global SIM the SIM will find the strongest signal automatically ensuring you receive continuous coverage across several networks, providing a service exits from one of the main operators. You can also search for a specific network manually and the costs remain at the flat rate advertised for UK to UK calls!
Prepaid Data is a brand new feature on the global SIM card designed for those who wish to use Instant Messaging, read and send emails and access WAP or the internet using their mobile phone whilst they travel. Prepaid Data uses the GPRS and 3G standard. (data currently not available via Blackberry devices.)
Customer Support
Voice mail, account balance enquiries, top ups, customer service and call forwarding functions can all be managed directly from the handset using short access codes. On-line account management and call history/billing details are also available as standard. (Full details included in the user guide).
Why should I get a Global SIM card from 0044 rather than another Global SIM provider?
Because we are an independent retailer we have been able to research the market for the best solution. There are many resellers of global SIM cards offering phone numbers from a variety of European countries like Iceland, Lichtenstein and Estonia which are all impractical and expensive to call.
Our SIM card has several advantages over the competition:
1. UK (Isle of Man) Mobile Number and USA number range option.
Unlike many similar services our SIM card has a UK mobile number (+44 7924) and a USA number (+1)
Having a UK mobile number means that from a UK BT landline* it only costs 13p/min (peak) and 8p/min (after 6 pm) to call the SIM wherever it is in the world! Many UK national mobile networks also include calls to +44 7924 IOM mobile numbers within their inclusive minutes bundles, but please check with your specific UK mobile provider for latest information and to ensure your inclusive minutes can be used. If you are in the USA then someone calling from the UK to your US number pays as little as 2p/min using our USA dialthrough services here;
*If you use a service other than BT please check with your landline or mobile service provider the exact cost to call a UK Isle of Man (+44 7924) number or to call our US dial through number, as prices may vary.
Consequently your contacts save up to a massive 70% when calling our SIM card as opposed to calling any other global SIM. This is a vital consideration to make if you want to be regularly contacted by friends, family and business colleagues whilst abroad.
2. Cheap Roaming Text (SMS)
Many other global SIM providers still charge a premium to send a text message with their global SIMs. This is to encourage you to make calls instead. Our text rate starts at just 11p/text from European Union destinations please see the call cost calculator for full details of text rates for each country.
3. Our rates to call landlines are often lower
Although we cannot offer as many “Free incoming countries” since this is subsidized by the high cost to call a Liechtenstein or Estonian mobile number, we do offer lower call rates in most destinations (Please note a per call connection rate currently exists at 23p/call)
4. No daily usage charges
You’ll find some global SIM or international SIM providers charge a daily usage fee (up to £0.40pday) when using the SIM, over and above the call charges, even if you receive calls for free. This can equate to an additional £140+ per annum expenditure on certain SIM cards like SIM4travel. At 0044.co.uk we do not charge a daily usage fee, just what you see on the rates calculator.
5. Lowest call rates for a global SIM in the USA or Canada
Most global SIM cards will operate in the USA and Canada but tend to be very expensive (£1.00 + per minute to make and receive calls) and therefore the savings are negligible. However, the new 0044 global SIM offers the lowest rates available via a global SIM in the USA and Canada with FREE incoming calls (on the UK number profile) and international calls at only 30p/min.
6. Receiving calls for FREE in the USA!
Example; if you travel to the USA or Canada with the SIM you should activate the US number option before you travel. This provides you with a US (+1) number when in the USA or Canada and means it’s cheap for US residents to call you (Canadian residents pay the same price to call a US number so need to check costs with their provider). UK residents can also reach you for 2p/min via our dialthrough number service and you pay a minimal amount to receive the call. However, as the SIM has a UK (+44) number option callers can call you on that UK number for 13 p/min (from a UK BT land line) and you receive the calls for free in the USA! You then revert to your UK number range outside of the US and Canada to make and receive calls and texts and achieve maximum savings. We recommend the +1 number for US/Canada and the +44 for all other territories as using either number option outside of the recommended territory may become confusing for your contacts. You also pay surcharges on top of incoming call rates to receive a call on the +1 US number in any country.
Calling the ekit SIM toll free
You're about to travel, but your family and friends think that since you are traveling the world it will be too hard and too expensive to call you. Toll-free calling is the answer! Toll-free calling makes it easy for family and friends to call you at no charge to them.Your family or friends will not be charged, but as the toll free system replicates a 'reverse charges' call you will be charged an additional 24p/min surcharge to receive the call regardless of your location.
Please note: Family and friends can only call toll free from the United States, Australia, Canada, France, Germany or United Kingdom.
Travelling to more than one destination?
Many SIM cards are limited to use within their home territory, so if you plan to
make stop overs on the way to, or from, your main destination, or simply visit several
countries then why not consider a Global SIM
or International SIM. Call rates and text
rates will help you make savings and in many countries you still benefit from free
incoming calls on a Global SIM
or International SIM.
